Originally the term
longbow referred to a long (at least the height of the archer) and slim,
"rod-shaped" wooden bow (like for example the traditional
English longbow with its D-shape cross section of the limbs and the traditional horn nocks).
In a more broader sense nowadays the term longbow subsumes different bow types (for example also
flat bows like the Holmegaard bow with a more rectangular cross section of the limbs).
